Representations of taste and sensibility enter Thauberger’s work through architectural styles, the decoration and ornamentation of façades, the landscaping and the planting of lawns. Churches, lodges, and the Women’s Institute embody the communities’ spiritual and fraternal life… The people themselves never appear in these paintings. Thauberger represents the objects of their making, the objects of their desires and the objects of their affections – the things that by bind them together as a social unit within larger society. |
